Ordinary wave soldering machine is to contact the entire circuit board with the sprayed tin surface, and rely on the surface tension of the solder to climb naturally to complete the soldering. For large heat capacity and multilayer circuit boards, ordinary wave soldering is difficult to meet the requirements of tin penetration.
Selective wave soldering emits a dynamic tin wave through the soldering nozzle, and its dynamic strength will directly affect the vertical tin penetration in the through hole; especially for lead-free soldering, because of its poor wettability, more dynamic and strong tin waves are needed.
In addition, oxides are not easy to remain on the wave crest with strong flow, which is also helpful to improve the welding quality.
 
The welding efficiency of selective wave soldering is not as high as that of ordinary wave soldering. Because selective wave soldering is mainly for high-precision PCB boards, when traditional wave soldering cannot complete through-hole group soldering (defined in some special products, such as automotive electronics, aerospace, etc.), it needs to be programmed to Selective wave soldering with precise control of each solder joint.
